The Library was created in 1972 as a physical library to serve the information and knowledge needs of the UNEP personnel in support of UNEP’s work. In 2013, the transition of the UNEP Library to a digital library is a paradigm shift in the way the library conducts business. The UNEP Library is no longer an information gatekeeper exercising ownership of its collections. It is an information and knowledge that facilitates access to: i)UNEP’s collective knowledge output. ii)Peer-reviewed information in developing countries through the Online Access to Research in the Environment (OARE) partnership. iii)Scientific literature to UNEP staff through subscriptions and other resources.
In2024, the Federation of Egyptian Banks launched a comprehensive Sustainable Finance Digital Library aimed at empowering bankers with essential knowledge in sustainability and sustainable finance practices. This initiative seeks to equip financial professionals with the tools and resources needed to integrate sustainable principles into their operations and decision-making processes. By providing access to a wide array of research, case studies, and best practices, the library aims to foster a culture of sustainability within the banking sector, ultimately contributing to the broader goal of sustainable economic development in Egypt. This digital resource stands as a pivotal step towards aligning the financial industry with global sustainability standards and promoting responsible banking practices
